In the weeks leading up to SPOT Festival we present a number of acts from different parts of the music world.

First up is Blondage

1: Who are you? (how did you get together, when etc.)

We are Pernille and Esben, and together we make up Blondage. We met in our early twenties while studying Art and Culture and quickly found out we shared a passion for music. We started sharing songs and soon we were jamming together in Esben’s studio. I (Pernille) helped Esben out with his solo project Rangleklods and gradually it became a joint thing evolving into the full blown duo we are today.

2: What is your musical expression / genre?

We make electronic weirdo pop.

3: How long have you been a band/when did you start the project – and what musical environment do you come from?

We’ve been working together since 2012. That’s when we started touring with Rangleklods for real. We’ve been working together as a duo – composing everything together – since 2014.

4: What are your sources of inspiration?

Of course we listen to a lot of music to get inspired. Right now we dig the wave of electronic pop that really pushes the boundaries. We think artists like Flume, Kaytranada, Mura Masa, NAO and many others succeed in making really great pop songs with super complex, layered productions with so much playfulness and experimentation. That’s what we seek as well.

5: What are your main goals playing at SPOT this year?

We changed our name last year and in many ways we consider us self more as a “new” act. We want to show what Blondage is about and hopefully make bookers and agents want us to rock their festivals and so on.

6: Who are you trying to reach – and why?

We’re trying to reach a broader audience. Earlier we made very dark, melancholic and experimental songs. Now we feel much lighter and more direct in our songwriting. We know we can make the clubs go wild with our new songs. We just need even more people to know about us.

7: Have you played abroad (if so: where?) Do you have any international deals?

We’ve played a lot more abroad than we have played in Denmark. We’ve played all across Europe (Germany, Holland, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Norway, the UK, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Croatia), Brazil, Argentina and at SXSW in Austin.

8: What is your dream as a musician?

To make great pop songs with an edge and a message and to get our music out to as many people as possible.

9: What is the most important thing you have learned so far?

That making music and writing songs is like a love affair. It’s beautiful, messy and can make you equally happy and desperate. You live and work for the moment where you can see your music making some kind of impact. At a live show, when you feel and see the people react to your songs, it’s pure bliss.

10: Where are you in 5 years?

We’re still making music as Blondage and hopefully we’re also working with other great artists writing world class pop.
